Reforestation Initiative

The beauty and desirability of the items we offer comes not only from the skill and craft that cabinetmakers and designers brought to creating each piece, but also from the spectacular old-growth woods that were chosen to make many these objects with. Regrettably, some of the wood that was used to create these pieces in the 1700's and 1800's are close to extinction – like with Cuban Mahogany – or in the case of Brazilian Rosewood, banned from harvest due to overuse by the furniture industry.

At Brontosaurus we see ourselves as both stewards of history and advocates for conservation. Just in Illinois alone we have seen ash, oak, and maple trees heavily impacted by wilt, blight, and invasive insects. Wood is not only the foundational material that our business is based on, but the foundational material that our world is based on. We feel it is our responsibility to do what we can to insure that future generations will be able to call upon trees that are planted now to provide oxygen, shade, beauty, and the raw materials to craft the next era of handmade furniture.

It gives us great pleasure to announce that we are working with One Tree Planted to assist with reforestation efforts across our National Parks, Appalachia, Oregon, and in California where ongoing wildfires have been having an outsized impact on both the environment and the residents of the state.
