An Empire piano stool made in Boston around 1830, its octagonal seat set on a fluted, tapering rosewood pedestal. The column narrows into a trefoil platform base on turned, suppressed bun feet, a three-point stance built for function over ornament. The seat height matches a keyboard, not a vanity or a writing desk. Purpose is baked into the proportions.

Constructed in rosewood and rosewood veneers over an eastern white pine secondary wood, with the seat padded in horse hair beneath a dark, narrow-striped woven upholstered seat.

DIMENSIONS: 13-3/4" W x 19" H

ORIGIN: American, Boston

PERIOD: Empire, circa 1830

MATERIALS: Rosewood and rosewood veneers over eastern white pine (secondary wood); upholstery

CONDITION: Excellent overall condition. Structurally sound, with a consistent surface finish throughout. Seat has been reupholstered.
