A Federal serpentine-front mahogany game table made in Salem, Massachusetts between 1810 and 1815, attributed to Samuel Field McIntire. The bull-nosed flip top, cut with ovolo corners, swings open on a rear leg that pivots free of the frame to catch the underside and hold the surface level for play. The apron is faced in matched figured mahogany veneer, framed by acanthus-carved corners over a ground of star-punch work. The leaves were cut by hand, and no two fall quite the same way. Four ring-turned, reeded legs taper to spike feet, each fitted with a fire-gilt brass acanthus-cup castor.

MATERIALS: Mahogany with matched figured mahogany veneers; brass hardware including castors and hinges.

CONDITION: Overall excellent condition. Wear marks and scuffing consistent with age and use. Historic repairs include filled surface chips and a stabilized, refinished hinge pocket.
