A 19th-century American rag rug, hand loomed in two panels and finished with bound tan edges. Repeating bands of raspberry, blue, tan, and black run the length of the rug, with thin threads of gold and coral pink woven through each stripe. Look closely at the center and you can trace the seam where the two loom-width panels were joined by hand. It's a detail typical of rugs pieced together from narrower home-loom widths to reach full size.
