A Chinese camphor wood trunk made for the Western export trade around 1825, wrapped in deep green leather and banded in brass. Rows of brass tacks outline each panel, while bands of stylized flowers in red and gold unfurl across the front and sides within scrolling foliate borders. The interior has been fitted with a later brass lid support stay for added functionality.

Cast brass rosettes and bail handles flank the sides, and a brass keyhole escutcheon marks the front lock plate. Run a hand along the tack-lined edges and you can feel how each one was set by hand, panel by panel, built for a trunk that's now made the trip past its 200th year.
