This handsome Classical center table was made in New York, circa 1815–1830, during the height of the American Empire style. The circular top is veneered in a bold, richly figured flame mahogany, edged with a narrow banded molding above a plain mahogany apron.

The top is raised on a striking clustered column composed of four reeded, ring-topped colonnettes, gathered at the base beneath a turned and gadrooned ebonized collar. Below, the column spreads into a concave triform platform, terminating in three acanthus-carved legs, each resting on a bold ebonized lion's paw foot.

A fine example of Classical-period furniture, combining architectural form with sculptural detail — an elegant centerpiece for an entry, parlor, or sitting room.

DIMENSIONS: 38" Diameter x 32" H

ORIGIN: American, New York

PERIOD: Classical (Empire), circa 1815–1830

MATERIALS: Mahogany (solid and veneer) over pine; ebonized finish on feet

CONDITION: Good overall condition. Some areas of wear and small losses to the veneer. This table has a small hairline crack on the tripod base, where the wood-block construction separated slightly along a seam in the pine substrate underneath. The base has been professionally conserved and stabilized, and the piece is structurally sound.
