A pair of Barker-Ellis Silver Company pear-shaped pepper castors in Birmingham electroplate. Gadrooned rims frame the pierced, domed lids, each topped with a small ball finial, while a scrolled element rises from the neck of each piece. The castors rest on four lion's-paw feet, each springing from an applied lion-mask mount — a Georgian Revival form common on English electroplate of the period.
The underside of the castors feature an engraved shield-shaped mark with an interwoven script "SM" monogram - the 1912 mark for the Barker-Ellis Silver Company.
