A 1929 Tonge serigraph by Fred Grayson Sayre, "The Covered Wagon," depicts a covered wagon and team crossing a stream at the base of a mountain range, rendered in lavender, rose, and gold tones of early morning or dusk light. The composition draws on Sayre's better-known California desert and mountain landscape paintings, carrying that same dramatic staging and saturated color into the print medium. Printed and copyrighted in 1929 by Tonge Art Co. of Los Angeles, the piece is on paper, archival float mounted, and currently housed in a gold-tone wood molding frame with a wide double white mat under UV-filtering plexiglass.
